DURATION: 50’

Both hailing from Florence, Laura Simi and Erika Zueneli have known each other for a long time: their respective paths are parallel and similar. Here, they come together around a saraband, in the search for echoes, both ancestral and contemporary, of our historical and societal rituals.

Investing the body with the thickness of time, patterns, forces and memories, their respective paths meet in a push-me-pull-you of composition and decomposition. With a touch of irony, the show celebrates the energy of dance as a practice that creates spaces and utopias.

22/23 CREATION FOR 10 PERFORMERS – CENTRAL – LA LOUVIÈRE (BE)
DURATION: 60′

LANDFALL. It’s a fragment of mental space. Perhaps an island, perhaps a no-man’s-land. A frontier zone, a zone to be defended against the shrinking of reality. On the stage, ten individuals expose themselves and blend in, assert themselves and hesitate, in a game of movement and flux that is both constantly shifting and continuous. And while their presence willingly plays with a sometimes exaggerated frontality, above all it gives rise to unstable, changing portraits, like so many possible (re)presentations of the self. There’s something gently subversive about these resolutely frontal bodies and gazes: a vitality, an ardour that overflows into spontaneous impulses – an urgency.

Created from the singularities of its performers, LANDFALL opts for an assemblage of diverse energies and sensibilities rather than a univocal unifying unison. The result is a multi-faceted playground: games guided by the desires of ten young adults, where the ‘WHAT TO DO’ of each reflects and resonates to reveal their convergence.

The prize for the best show of the 22.23 season, in all categories, was awarded by ‘Les Prix Maeterlinck de la Critique’ to the Tant’amati / Erika Zueneli company for their show LANDFALL.

Duration 40′

On a stage strewn with soft black matter, Erika Zueneli engages a body that is forever on the alert. A body crossed by myriad desires and tensions, one moment springing forth, the next colliding, almost despite itself. lnstability and fragility live in this continuum, one that is resolutely subject to crosswinds. What emerges is a
literally vibrant being, in a near permanent state of re-invention. A brief moment of respite and suspension in this odyssey filled with images and sensations, sometimes furtive, sometimes tense or appeased…
Si vis pacem, para bellum, “lf you want peace, prepare for war”. From this idea of preparation for combat, Erika Zueneli delivers a solo brimming with troubled energy, the kaleidoscopic reflection of something both vain and essential: the tenacity to persevere, to carry on… in spite of the flaws of life, in spite of its dazzling moments, in spite of everything.

CREATION 2018 by Erika Zueneli, in collaboration with Jean Fürst & Rodolphe Coster

Duration : 55’

«Allein ! Die Welt hat mich vergessen. Ich hänge rum ! » – Nina Hagen

On a bare stage are three performers. Nothing about the trio is rigid or particularly minimalistic, they are simply enjoying forming and deforming themselves. It is just like a game of potential conjunctions, expanding the scope for clues, and for beginnings. As if the fact of moving forward is never too far from starting over.

Even if the title seems to evoke loneliness, if a London pea-souper creeps onto the stage, if the color black prowls almost obstinately, still a scent of mischief hovers over this crossing, hinting at the more-or-less distant past in which the present continues to resonate.
Bodies, movements, and figures are drawn, come into being, and transform themselves. Sounds, music, and voices slip, slide, make their mark and implode. Words escape too, echoing over one another. Words fall, not really under the senses, rather they are happy to swoop beneath, or to soar above.

Past, present, future? The time for conjugation is over. Write no more. Get a real taste of the verb ‘to happen’.

Freely inspired by Virginia Woolf’s The Waves, Vai e passa is a race reflecting the extreme tension between the frenzy of the great world and the ephemeral nature of life, the violence of being and of nature, with its recurrences and explosions.
This project explores the absurd condition of mankind, and the urgency that seems to exist to “be” and to “act”.
Against a simple, abstract backdrop, the piece evolves in perpetual motion made up of passages, appearances and disappearances… Just like the crossings made by a stageboat subject to constant, subtle metamorphoses.
Five dancers grapple with the relentlessness of time, falling prey to the uncertainty of the next day, a day that may perhaps dawn too late. One life, many lives; one way, a thousand ways, at once different and similar, where each individual makes a gesture and withdraws into a rhythmic movement evoking the ebb and flow of the tides.
The eddy of these streams of consciousness, both similar and distinct, highlights the sense of urgency in its continuity, where time runs aground, between two cliffs.

OR2 is in essence Olivier Renouf twice. One is a dancer, the oth- er a sound designer. Since 2010, Erika Zueneli has found food for thought in this homonymy. lnterested in a methodology similar to that of participative anthropology, she has documented the subject over a long period, fueled by meetings between both protagonists. From an anecdote told behind closed doors, she has created a poly- phonic spectacle on the theme of identity based around the danced body, sound evidence and visual arts created “from the outside looking in”. This first part puts dance at the heart of the portrait one O.R. paints of the other, enhanced by other viewpoints.

Duet featuring Erika Zueneli and pianist/composer compositeur Denis Chouillet Creation at ‘Le Regard du Cygne’ studio Paris in 2011, finalized in 2013

Duration 30′

For this project, everything comes from music, in this case that of Bach, our pretext and source text, and a circumstance, that of a residency in a space equipped with two pianos. The idea came to us to use them, played by a single pianist, and to choose a number of the Goldberg Variations, a piece whose writing plays on the opportunities offered by two homogeneous keyboards.
These two pianos arranged in a fan formation marked the beginning of a stage design that was complemented by a white square on the ground, allowing the dance could unfold in a simple, front-facing bias, and splitting the stage into two dedicated, fixed spaces.
This formation proved to be a kind of vortex into which we fell.
By playing and replaying, allowing the instrumental and choreographic gestures to shift and gradually restructure, memories or fleeting glances reappeared as if in a developing bath. This process was powerfully driven by a constant pulse and the solid architecture of these variations.
We designed the piece as an environment of which we are part; with our own colors, and our individual and collective stories; all washed over by this river of Bach.

Varieazioni (from the ltalian ‘varie’: various, ‘azioni’: actions, and ‘variazioni’: variations) which enables a dual interpretation of the same music. We play and dance a “composed interpretation” of nine of the thirty “Goldberg Variations”.

This, the third instalment of a project looking into the dialectic of conflict, Tournois (Tournaments) features seven dancers in a game of chess. At once manipulators and manipulated, they are meet in a series of «tournaments» that blur the lines between “game” and “me”. Verbal jousting, demonstrations of force, courtship rituals or dressage lessons: constantly swinging between reality and fiction, the choreography touches on situations that are sometimes funny, sometimes intimate and inquire about relationships between men. Sometimes just one detail, a simple grain of sand in the mechanism of life, is enough to change everything, and to lose control.
